Queenstown
Queenstown is widely known as the Adventure
Capital in New Zealand, and set amidst the
dramatic Southern Alps, is also one of New
Zealand’s most scenic regions. The four very
distinct seasons make it a year round
destination. A reputation earned through the
actions of a number of locally residing
thrill seekers who have developed several
unbelievable, adrenalin stirring,
sanity-reducing adventures in a wildly
exciting environment. Bungy jump, skydive,
climb mountains, ski, raft, kayak, fish,
horse ride, cycle, walk, take a scenic
flight, sail, river surf, jet boat,
hang-glide, snowmobile, snowboard, dance, go
canyoning, heliski, parapente.
Surrounded by six fantastic ski areas,
Queenstown offers a superb winter experience
with a generous après ski culture in its
vibrant town centre and a wide range of fun
activities off the slopes. Amuse yourself on
a day off the slopes with walking trails,
superb shopping, day spas, over 150
restaurants and bars, award winning
vineyards and a host of adventure sports.
Queenstown has over the years, quietly
expanded into all sorts of attractions
including new wineries, art galleries, arts
trails and challenging golf courses. Dining
is a serious business in Queenstown and
there are more than 100 great eateries to
choose from. Nothing goes better with a
great meal than a great wine and Central
Otago is well known for great wines. During
balmy summer and autumn days and evenings
alfresco diners pack sidewalk cafés,
restaurant gardens and wineries to enjoy
great food and wine, warm conditions and
10.00 pm sunsets. In winter, roaring log
fires, and hearty menus warm restaurants and
the beverage lists respond to icy outside
temperatures adding mulled wine. It's the
perfect time of the year for one of Central
Otago's famous Pinot Noirs.
Queenstown’s Climate
Because New Zealand lies in the Southern
Hemisphere, the average temperature
decreases as you travel south. The north of
New Zealand is subtropical and the south
temperate. Average high and low temperatures
for Queenstown during November (Spring) are
5-16°C (41-61°F). We strongly recommend that
you use sunblock (factor 30+) and hats if
spending time outdoors. (Both are readily
available at outlets throughout New
Zealand). Please refer to
www.metservice.co.nz for latest
weather conditions closer to the date of the
Conference.
